International Human Rights in the Supreme Court: 2021 Term

On May 12th, 2021, the Washington Foreign Law Society hosted a panel on "International Human Rights in the Supreme Court: 2021 Term". The event was co-sponsored by the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and by the International Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA). The panel featured Lori Fisler Damrosch of Columbia Law School, Thomas Lee of Fordham Law, and Robert Barnes, SCOTUS reporter with the Washington Post; Mark Feldman of Georgetown Law moderated the discussion.

Panelists dissected recent Supreme Cases involving the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and the Alien Tort Statute. The discussion focused on what claims may be brought under such statutes in the context of human rights litigation against foreign powers.
