    2023 Ibrahim Shihata Prize

The Washington Foreign Law Society is pleased to launch the 2023 edition of the Ibrahim Shihata Prize. Previous winners are available here.

The Washington Foreign Law Society (“WFLS”) seeks to promote and recognize scholarship in the area of Islamic jurisprudence and related legal developments in the Muslim World. In support of this goal, the WFLS has established the Ibrahim Shihata Prize (the “Shihata Prize”), a writing prize in honor of the late Dr. Ibrahim Shihata, former World Bank General Counsel, past recipient of the WFLS Harry Leroy Jones Award, and revered member of the Washington DC and international legal communities.

The winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize that may be presented at an agreed-upon WFLS event with travel reimbursement of up to $500.

The Shihata Prize is funded by the Ahmad and Elizabeth El-Hindi Foundation of Manlius, New York, a private charitable, educational foundation dedicated to promoting collaborative efforts across cultures in a spirit of cooperative problem-solving.

The Shihata Prize seeks to engage in particular (i) individuals who are students at the time of submission and (ii) early-career professionals.
