Roundtable with the Departments of State and Treasury on Implementation of the Latest Sanctions on Iran

On Friday, September 28, 2012, the Washington Foreign Law Society, the American Society of International Law, and cooperating committees of the ABA Section of International Law presented a special breakfast program with legal representatives from both the Department of State and Department of the Treasury.  The panelists discussed the significant new sanctions imposed under Executive Order 13622  and under the Iran Threat Reduction and Syrian Human Rights Act of 2012 (ITRSHRA).  In particular, the panel discussed the issues associated with how these new sanctions will be implemented and enforced.  The program was off the record. The panelists included: Ann Broeker,  attorney advisor in the Office of the Chief Counsel (Foreign Assets Control) U.S. Department of the Treasury, where she supports the Office of Foreign Assets Control on Iran sanctions issues; and Margaret L. Taylor, Attorney-Adviser in the Office of the Legal Adviser, U.S. Department of State, where she supports State Department policymakers working on Iran sanctions issues, including the Bureau for Economics and Business Affairs, the Bureau of Energy Resources, and the Special Advisor for Nonproliferation and Arms Control.  The event was moderated by Jonathan Epstein, Partner at Holland & Knight LLP.
