Please find below an announcement from our friends at the Law Library of Congress.
The Foreign and Comparative Law Webinar Series of classes is designed to shed light on some of the foreign and comparative law issues currently being researched by the foreign law and international law experts at the Law Library of Congress.
In this entry in the series, Foreign Law Specialist Jenny Gesley will discuss central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and how they fit in the general monetary system. In particular, the webinar will discuss the definition of money, fiat currencies, digital currencies, cryptocurrencies, and their similarities and differences. Will CBDCs eventually replace cash? What effect will they have on cryptocurrencies? Specific examples from jurisdictions around the world and their progress with CBDCs, including the Bahamas, China, Sweden, the European Union, Great Britain, and the United States, will be highlighted.
